Dr. Jim Bailey is leading Healthy City Town Halls across the country to encourage people to join the movement to Reclaim Health Care that Heals. The Town Hall will get people in Memphis talking about how we can demand and get health care that truly heals for our community, our families, and ourselves at a price we all can afford. With all the recent debate about health reform, Americans are eager to discover the path to reclaiming their broken healthcare system and a brighter future for America in the process. At the Healthy City Town Hall – Memphis, our three panelists are physicians who will present their perspectives about what is really happening in health reform. They will discuss the main ways Americans can demand and get health care that truly heals. Each panelist will speak for 5-10 minutes and then Dr. Bailey will moderate a question and answer period and panel discussion. This Healthy City Town Hall will offer everyday people a way to understand the real forces driving American medicine and show them how to demand and get health care that truly heals for themselves, their families, and their neighbors.
Our panelists are Dr. Jim Bailey, Dr. Clarence Davis, and Dr. G. Scott Morris
Dr. Jim Bailey is a physician and professor of medicine and preventive medicine at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, where he directs the Center for Health System Improvement, cares for the sick, and teaches doctors in training. His research demonstrates how we can best improve health care for everyday Americans and appears in many peer- reviewed medical journals, including JAMA and Annals of Internal Medicine. Dr. Bailey’s novel, The End of Healing: A Journey through the Underworld of American Medicine, earned a Benjamin Franklin award for popular fiction. It is scheduled for national re-release on September 18 and will be available exclusively at Novel on September 16.
Dr. Clarence Davis has more than a decade of experience as a medical director or chief medical officer of managed care Medicaid insurance plans spanning from TLC to Amerigroup to Blue Cross Blue Shield blue care. He is currently the chief medical officer for Memphis Health Center, which among his many other duties includes providing clinical care for the Ryan White HIV program and the clinical champion Patient Centered Medical Home. Additionally, Dr. Davis is the host of the radio show, “Improving Your Health with Dr. Clarence Davis” — now running in its seventh year. Dr. Davis will be available at the conclusion of the Healthy City Town Hall to answer questions about the path to better health.
Dr. G. Scott Morris is the founder and CEO of Church Health, an organization that has grown to become the largest faith-based, privately funded primary care clinic in the country. He has an undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia, a Master of Divinity degree from Yale University, and M.D. from Emory University. As a board certified family practice physician and an ordained minister in the United Methodist Church, Dr. Morris is a leader in the field of faith and health and an advocate for the poor in US society. His book God, Health, and Happiness shows how spiritual well-being can lead to better health. Dr. Morris and Dr. Bailey will be available to sign their books at the conclusion of the Healthy City Town Hall.
